I consider serving in Iraq the highlight of my 20–year military career. My dad served in the National Guard during the Vietnam era, and like my dad, I believed it was important to give something back to this country. I knew I always wanted to serve my country and also knew that someday I wanted to own my own home. |

Sometimes you have to fight for what you want, and sometimes there are obstacles in the way, but you know when something is really worth fighting for, and for me, it was the American Dream of Homeownership. |

The road to becoming a homeowner wasn't easy, but my agent, Linda, was with me every step of the way for five years. As soon as Linda learned of my background, she told me about the VA loan, but the timing wasn't right and I still had a tour of duty to complete. |
| Linda and I kept in contact while I was away. When I came home in December of 2010, she had already done her homework and had homes ready for me to view in my preferred neighborhood. I only had one day — the next day was considered my travel day back to Iraq. Time was not on our side, and I was very picky. I knew what neighborhood I wanted, what type of home and what features. I wasn't ready to settle no matter how rushed I was for time. But Linda nailed it. She found the home for me, and it was pre–approved for a VA loan. |
| Linda submitted my offer as I headed back to Iraq, and then she handled everything for me so that I could focus on serving my country. Buying my first home while I was so far away was stressful at times, but I knew that with her incredible knowledge of VA loans, I could count on Linda and First Team to get the job done. |
