At First Team Real Estate the holidays are our favorite time of the year because we get to slow down and show our appreciation for our community - for the people who make our jobs worthwhile. It's a season of good food, friends, family and plenty of opportunities to give back and give thanks for those around us. Southern California is our hometown, so during the holidays we do what we can to spread the love and of course plenty of fun.

Here's what we're doing this holiday season and ways for you to join in the fun and community giving.

Thanksgiving Food Drive at the Fullerton Office

Completed home sales nationally climbed to 5.26 million this October and are now above year-over-year levels for the first time since October 2013 according to the latest from the National Association of Realtors. This is great news for the real estate market, a sign that numbers are not only normalizing but strengthening for next year.

Thanks to low interest rates this fall and rising inventory, buyers are creating more sales activity. The job market has also been strengthening which is a good sign this increase will continue.

Here are the highlights from the report:

  • Median existing home price was $208,300 which is a 5.5% raise from this time last year.
  • Inventory fell at the end of October and unsold inventory is now 5.2% higher than last

Thanksgiving and the holiday season reminds us to be thankful for what we have and give back to those less fortunate. This is the time when many people bring in canned goods for food drives, volunteer at soup kitchens and help out their community to spread the holiday spirit.

Thanksgiving is just a few days away but there are still plenty of things you can do to give back and support your Southern California community. Here are 3 creative events and charities that you can help out this year to show you love your hometown.

  • Housing news came in strong with Existing Home Sales climbing to 5.26 million, the fifth month in a row over the 5 million mark. The Index of Leading Economic Indicators recorded its ninth month in a row without a negative reading.
  • Both the Consumer and Producer Price Indices revealed sizable drops in energy prices, and muted inflation elsewhere.  The minutes of the last Federal Reserve meeting didn’t shine much light on anything that we didn’t already know.
  • The only weak

Buying a fixer-upper can be a great real estate investment but the secret is finding the right house. There are obvious benefits to buying a fixer-upper including: lower sales price, less competition, resale potential and the satisfaction of a job well done.

We all know that the ideal fixer-upper is one that everybody wants – just not yet. The key is seeing past the peeling paint, warn carpets and popcorn stucco walls that other buyers can’t. To help you narrow in on exactly what else makes a fixer-upper a worthy real estate cause, here’s the most important points to consider.

Cosmetic Repairs Vs. Structural Repairs

The most important determining factor in whether or not a fixer-upper is worth the work is the type of repairs it needs. Generally
