The holidays are an exciting time of year with events, concerts, tree-lighting ceremonies and more. To help you out, and ensure you don't miss an opportunity for some fun, we've put together a list of events in Orange County this December 2014. We've broken down the events into city tree-lighting ceremonies, ongoing holiday events for the month and other holiday celebrations.

City Holiday Tree Lightings Around Orange County

Find out when your city is celebrating so you don't miss out!

December 2nd

Garden Grove – Under the clock tower at Village Green Park, Main and Euclid streets. There will be live entertainment, refreshments and a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus. And of course a flurry of snow arriving at 6:30PM so don’t be late!

December 3rd

La Palma – Come out to the Central Park Amphitheater for a Community Carol Sing Along lead by Santa and crafts. Crafts will begin at 4:30pm and the ceremony will run from 5:30-8:30PM. For more information go to

December 4th

Stanton – The Rancho Alamitos High School Choir will be performing at the Stanton Civic center to ring in the holidays. Come for food and fun from 5:30-7PM

Brea – Grab a hot cocoa and cookie while you watch the magic happen at the Brea Civic center. The event is free and is hosted by Santa and Mrs. Claus from 6-8:30PM.

December 5th

Tustin – Come by the Tustin Library Courtyard on Main Street at 6PM for carols and the official tree lighting.

Mission Viejo - Theater in the Round presented by the South Coast Freestyle Dance Center and the St. Killian Choir present the 4th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Kaleidoscope Shopping Center from 6-8PM. Enjoy the singing, dancing and of course a visit from Santa.

December 6th

Anaheim – The ‘Nutcracker’ Christmas Tree Lighting will include a 50 foot tree at the Center Street Promenade in downtown Anaheim, pictures with Santa, kids crafts and more.

Dana Point – This all day event begins at noon and continues till 7:30PM, full of festivities on PCH north of Golden Lantern. Come and see what the Dana Point Winter Festival and tree lighting is all about.

Newport Beach – Have ‘Christmas at the Beach’ as Exploreocan offers hands on activites in its learning centers. Following the fun will be a tree-lighting in the Plam Street Parking lot at 2PM. Adults are $5, $3 for children, $4 for seniors and free for children under 3 and active-duty military. For more info go to

Los Alamitos – Winter Wonderland at the Plaza in Los Alamitos is the annual holiday tree-lighting ceremony. Come to the St. Isidore Historical Plaza from 4-7:30PM for snow, refreshments, kids activities in Santa’s Village and more entertainment.

San Juan Capistrano – From 4-9PM enjoy hayrides, choir and orchestra performances from the high school, photos with Santa, holiday marionettes and more. The tree lighting will take place at 5:45PM all at the Historic Town Park Center, don’t miss out!

Fountain Valley – At the Recreation Center and Sports Park in Mile Square, come for crafts, games, food and photos with Santa from 4:30-8PM. Learn more about this free event at

December 7th

Old Towne Orange - The 20th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and Candlelight Choir Procession will be held at 3PM in the Old Towne Orange Plaza Area. Local nonprofit groups will be selling food and offering activities for a small donation price.

Science of Gingerbread – Discovery Museum

Now – January 5th

Be a part of the annual gingerbread competition, get hands on with different exhibits including build and race your own candy car in the Gingerbread derby and holiday cook decorating.

Dana Point Christmas Boat Parade of Lights

December 5,6,12 and 13th, 7PM

Come see boaters from all around Orange County decorate their vessels and compete for awards. A long-running Orange County tradition, the Dana Point Harbor Boat Parade of Lights has been a highlight of the season every year since 1975. You can still enter, just go to for more details.

Irvine Park Railroad Christmas Train

Weekends from now – December 23rd

Ride the Irvine Park train to the North Pole and meet Santa Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays this December. Tickets are $12 for all visitors over 2 year sold. Get your ticket online – train rides will sell out! The Irvine Park also has a Christmas Tree Ranch so when you come to visit Santa you can pick out your own tree too!

Dana Point IlluminOcean

Now – January 4th 2015

Dana Point Harbor will be transformed for its holiday lighting event with sea sculptures and illuminated tunnels. 5-10PM Sunday through Thursday, and 5-11PM Friday and Saturday through Jan. 4. For more details visit

Disney Magic Holiday Lights

Now – January 4th, 2015

Just outside the Edward’s movie theater at Irvine Spectrum Shopping Center you can enjoy a Disney themed holiday music and light display. The magic of “It’s a Small World” can be seen every hour. Plus while you’re at the Spectrum you can check out the ice skating rink outside of Macy’s or take a free selfie with the Orange County styled Santa in a Hawaiian shirt and board shorts.

A Christmas Carol – A Ghost Story of Christmas

Brought to you by the Camino Real Playhouse in San Juan Capistrano, this classic holiday tale is a can’t miss! The show runs Thursday-Saturday and matinees on Sunday. Could a holiday play be your new family tradition? 

Santa Claus Conquers the Martians

Now – December 28th

The Maverick Theater in Fullerton presents their annual twist on the holidays – Santa’s been kidnapped by aliens and must get back to Earth in time for Christmas. Catch this hilarious show Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through December 28th 

Jolly Holly Follies

December 5th and 6th

Coming to the Irvine Barclay Theater located at UCI is an old-fashioned variety show with traditional and new holiday songs. This show is presented by MenAlive, Orange County's Gay Men's Chorus.

Holiday Jazz Concert in Mission Viejo

December 12th

Held at the McKinney Theater, the concert will be conducted by Joey Sellers with holiday arrangements for all ages to enjoy. Hurry in, the first 150 audience members to arrive will be given a special gift! Check out the website for ticketing info at

Snow Wonderland in Anaheim

December 6th, 12-4PM

The Marketplace will have over 25 tons of snow for the whole family to play in. There will be giveaways, free hot chocolate, crafts, live entertainment, and fun for the whole family to enjoy.

Holiday Fur Ball in Huntington Beach

December 6th, 11AM-4PM

The Recycled Dog Rescue brings the first annual Winter Fur ball this December. The event will be a potluck including a silent auction and raffle, agility course for your pup to enjoy, a best manners contest and adoption opportunities so bring your friends!

Annual Christmas Train and Tree Ranch Boat Rides With Santa

December 6-7th, 10am-2pm

Bring your camera aboard a 20 minute harbor cruise in Dana Point with Santa and his elves! A $5 donation to the El Camino Real Junior Women’s Club is suggested.

German Holiday Christmas Market

December 7th, 10AM-4PM

At Old World Market in Huntington Beach stop by for very German Christmas celebration! The event will include arts and crafts sellers so you can find unique gifts for the holidays plus there will be food, music face painting, Santa and more. After all, Bratwurst and mulled red wine is what the holiday is all about, right?

Anaheim Night Market

December 13th, 5-9PM

Take a break from the holiday hoopla and check out the Anaheim night Farmer’s Market. Come visit the local crafter, artisans and pick up some last minute gifts for Christmas.

OC Brew Ho Ho

December 13th, 12-4PM

Taste one of a kind holiday and craft beers at the 3rd Annual OC Brew Ho Ho at the Phoenix Club in Anaheim. Enjoy unlimited tastings, brewery shopping, pictures with Santa, music and merriment. There will also be Designated Reindeer drivers for only $10 so you can party responsibly.

Newport Beach Santa Crawl - Charity Pub Crawl

December 13th, 9PM

Anyone and everyone is invited to the Newport Beach Santa Pub Crawl where all proceeds to go the Project Access holiday “Spreading the Joy” program. So make a difference this season by putting on your Santa suit and having a drink. Last year’s event included 500+ Santa and raised over $9,000!

Renegade Santa Run 5K, 10K & Kids Run

December 13th, 8AM

If drinking is not for you then raise money for charity at the Renegade Santa Run instead at Hick’s Canyon Elementary School in Irvine. Particiapants receive an ornament and refreshmetns at the finish line, Santa Run tee shirt, goody bag and prizes for the best holiday costume, best Santa and best kid’s costume. Proceeds benefit Human Options, a nonprofit dedicated to victims of domestic abuse.

Christmas at the OC Zoo

December 13th, 10AM-4PM

Located inside Irvine Regional Park, the OC Zoo will be celebrating the holidays with a visit from Old St. Nick. Come by for crafts, face painting, and holiday activities. While you’re at the park you can also ride the Irvine Park Railroad’s annual Christmas Train and pick out a tree! 

Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade

Decemeber 17th-21st, 6:30PM

The holidays in Orange County wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the 106th Annual Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade. The parade starts off Bay Island at 6:30PM and finishes at the same spot approximately 9PM each evening. Come by the check out the multi-million dollar yachts, small boats, kayaks and canoes decked out in holiday lights!
