Summer weather is returning to Orange County, and with it comes tons of new reasons to get out into the sunshine. Events in May 2017 include tons of fun runs and active events like the Tinker Bell Half Marathon, Great Donut Run, and Standup to the Cure paddle-boarding event. Get active in your community this month!

AVP Huntington Beach Open

Thursday, May 4th – Sunday, May 7th

Events in Orange County May 2017

Since 2000 Huntington Beach has hosted more AVP events than any other location. The 2017 season kicks off in Surf City USA, ensuring an 18th straight year that a pro beach volleyball tournament has been played there. For both men and women, the field has been wide open as six different teams have won in the last seven years for each gender. General admission is free!

La Habra Citrus Fair

The 8th Annual La Habra Citrus Fair is the largest non-commercial event in North Orange County featuring award winning Youth Expos, thrilling rides, a variety of entertainment including a bubble parade, wide selection of food, beer and wine cantina, and merchandise vendors. Offsite parking has been added this year for an estimated 50,000-60,000 attendance for the weekend.

Standup for the Cure Newport Beach

Saturday, May 6th

Standup Paddleboard and help raise money and awareness for Early Breast Cancer Detection, Education and Research. The event at Newport Dunes includes a 5K Fun Paddle “Sea of Pink”, SUP lessons and demos, SUP Yoga, a Health and Fitness Expo, Breast Cancer and Melanoma screenings, live music, silent auction and catered food and beverages. Help stand up for the cure!

Cinco De Mayo Fiesta

Saturday, May 6th

San Clemente will celebrate Cinco de Mayo on Saturday, May 6th in the Spanish Village by the Sea.  The program features live entertainment, beer garden hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, gourmet food trucks, deserts, and authentic beverages as well as children's game booths and activities sponsored by the Friends Foundation. There’s tons of fun from rock climbing to a petting zoo and giant slide for the kids so come out and celebrate with the whole family.

OC Marathon

Sunday, May 7th

Sparkling ocean and bay views and varied coastal terrain create a destination like no other for some 25,000 entrants of all fitness levels. Event weekend includes the OC Marathon, Half Marathon and Wahoo’s 5K, plus the OC Lifestyle and Fitness Expo, Kids Run the OC, and the now-legendary Ultimate Finish-line Festival with live music and dancing. The goal of the OC Marathon is to promote wellness and help charity partners reach a goal of $1 million.

Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend

Put on your imaginary wings, and join the Disney fairies and Peter Pan and the Lost Boys for the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend. The Tinker Bell Half Marathon will be held Sunday, May 14th at 5:30AM at Disneyland. The Pixie Dust Challenge held on Saturday and Sunday at 5:30AM will be 13.1-mile Half Marathon plus 6.2-mile Tinker Bell 10K through Disneyland. There is also a Tinker Bell 10K, Never Land 5K and runDisney Kids Races. Go online to get all the details!

Free Comic Book Day

Chili Cook-Off & Cinco de Mayo Festival

Saturday, May 6th

The 12th Annual Silverado Chili cook-off and Cinco de Mayo festival will be held Saturday, May 6th. The day will include live music and entertainment, artists, vendors, a petting zoo, food, beer and wine cantina, and more fun. $5 will buy you a Chili Taster kit so you can help judge the chili competition, and for another $5 kids get an activity pass to enjoy crafts and more.

Annual Soka University International Festival

Saturday, May 6th

Enjoy 700 musicians and dancers performing on four stages, and over 250 non-profit, craft and business exhibitors.  The 2017 International Festival will again be part of the Orange County's Imagination Celebration, presented in cooperation with Arts Orange County and the Orange County Department of Education.  Admission is free and parking is just $10 on campus. Enjoy international food, exhibitors, games and activities, art exhibitions, ceramic sales, kids play area, student projects and more.

Taste of Orange

Sunday, May 7st

The Orange Blossoms Auxiliary, an Auxiliary of Assistance League® of Orange, will be hosting the annual Taste of Orange event. This food and beer tasting event will include tons of local restaurants, beer and wine tastings from top restaurants and breweries, silent auction, raffles, live music and more. Tickets are $40 for all food tastings, drinks sold separately. Did we mention $20 of the ticket price is deductible? Yep, it’s a responsible choice.

Annual Taste of Anaheim

Thursday, May 11th

Enjoy food from popular restaurants in Anaheim at the 22nd annual Taste of Anaheim event.  The event brings together tons of local businesses including restaurants, bowling alleys, bakeries and much more from around Southern California at Anaheim GardenWalk for an evening full of food, drinks, music and fun. Tickets are $40 in advance and $45 day of. Children under 5 are free.

Annual OC Beer Festival

Held at the Phoenix Club in Anaheim, the 9th Annual OC Beer Festival will feature 50 breweries, 100 beers, live entertainment and food trucks. General admission is $45 for unlimited beer and access to food truck alley (food sold separately), VIP is $55 and also includes early entry at 12PM, an hour before general admission. Proceeds from the event will towards funding food, shelter, and veterinary bills for rescued pets.

The Great Donut Run 5k and Kids Donut Dash, is the tastiest 5k in Orange County. All participants will receive a beautiful, custom cast Donut Run medal, T-shirt, and scrumptious donuts at the finish! Balboa Island Artwalk

Taste of Brea

For just $25 for adults and $10 for children attendees are welcomed to sample unlimited tastings from the best local restaurants and breweries. The Brea Chamber's annual family-friendly festival regularly attracts over 2,500 visitors, and Birch Street will be closed for pedestrians only for live music and dancing. There will also be a vendor zone for tons of easy locally shopping.

Memorial Day Weekend equals the annual Garden Grove Strawberry Festival. This year is the 59th Annual Festival and will honor our community superhero volunteers. Don’t miss out on all the classic fair fun like arts and crafts, carnival rides, game booths vendors and food, food, food! Stage shows feature celebrity and local performers, and opening night don’t miss the Strawberry Cake Cutting Ceremony with free strawberry shortcake served for everyone who attends. Don’t forget the parade will be held Saturday at 10AM!

Newport Beach Beerfest

The Newport Beach Beerfest is an all-inclusive event with unlimited samples of over 150 craft beers, wines and spirits. Held at the sandy beaches of the Newport Dunes, this beer and music festival lets you enjoy the sunset while listening to live bands and DJs with food trucks and tons of fun. Laguna Hills Memorial Day Half Marathon

Monday, May 29th

Laguna Hills will be hosting a Memorial Day Half Marathon, 5K, 10K, and Kids Run at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center. Runners and walkers of all experience levels are invited to come out and enjoy the Memorial Day festivities! The top three male and female finishers in each age division will receive a commemorative  City of Laguna Hills Memorial Day Half Marathon, 5k, and 10K, Honoring the United States Marine Corps Dark Horse Battalion award.
