How do I start a career in real estate? How can First Team help me do that?

First Team is an expert at helping new agents launch their real estate career! In order to get your real estate license, you must complete 3 real estate licensing classes and then pass the state real estate exam.

What real estate licensing classes do you offer?

To get your California real estate license, you need to complete three classes – Real Estate Principles, Real Estate Practice, and Legal Aspects of Real Estate. These courses are offered through our partners at The CE Shop: firstteam.theceshop.com. Their comprehensive online program includes licensing courses and exam prep. The classes are flexible, so you can start at any time, and are designed to be flexible with your schedule.

What happens when I’m done with licensing school?

After completing licensing school, you will be ready to begin the state application process. You will send your application via certified mail and register for the California Real Estate State Exam.

What is the California real estate state exam like?

  • Salesperson Exam: 3 hours. 150 multiple-choice questions.
  • The examinations are given in a multiple-choice format. Answers are selected from four choices.
  • To pass the examination, you must correctly answer at least 70% of the questions.
  • Examinations are conducted in Fresno, La Palma, Oakland, Sacramento and San Diego. All exams are currently offered in an electronic format

Am I able to work with First Team as an agent once I get my license?

Yes! First Team offers exclusive Power Curve training and mentorship programs. After you have completed licensing school, you will be given an opportunity to meet with our Career Strategist. They will review the local office opportunities and set up appointments to meet with First Team office managers. Once you decide on the right First Team office for you, you may begin attending meetings and training. After you pass the state exam and receive your license number, you will be registered for our Power Curve training and begin your new career!

Does First Team provide training once I’m licensed?

Yes! Our 2-week Power Curve training covers the most important aspects of getting started with your career at First Team, including setting goals, leveraging our tools, and mastering the Listing Presentation. New agents then move onto Power Curve Plus, an additional 6-week online course designed to guide you further in establishing your personal business. We also offer ongoing, advanced training workshops where we dive deeper into proven sales strategies, industry technology, and best practices.

Will there be guidance offered during and after Power Curve?

Yes! Our commitment to you is to help grow your business systematically and measurably while helping improve your quality of life by coaching you to work smarter not harder. Our offices have non-competing Branch Managers to coach and help you build your business.

What is the cost of starting a career in real estate?

  • Real Estate Classes: Contact The CE Shop for current pricing
  • State Exam: $60 (paid to the state of CA/DRE)
  • License Fee: $245 (paid to the state of CA/DRE)
  • Live Scan Fingerprinting Service: Approx $60 (varies by location)
  • Association of Realtors and local MLS Fees: Ranges from $300-$850
    • Prorated depending on the time of year you join and the local board
    • Payable in 4 payments
  • Additional fees once you hang your license with a broker (fees vary by broker):
    • Errors and Omission (E&O) Insurance
    • Marketing & Advertising
    • Office Space including desk, phone, supplies & other miscellaneous
