What is the best high school in Irvine?

Picking the best Irvine high school is nearly impossible because each school offers its own list of benefits, programs, and advantages. According to US News, the highest rated Irvine high school is Northwood High School, ranking as the 50th best high school in the entire state of California. Northwood in fact is one of the top neighborhoods in Irvine because of the great local high school, as well as Woodbridge because of the tight knit local community.

What is the best high school in Orange County?

As you can see from the ratings above, several of the absolute best high schools in all of Orange County are located within Irvine. So many great schools certainly make real estate values remain so high, but there are other cities with great schools and school districts as well to consider. Other great high schools in Orange County nearby Irvine include Arnold O. Beckman High School in Tustin, El Toro High School in Lake Forest, El Modena High School in Orange and Tustin High School.

Irvine School District places a high importance on AP classes and college readiness and it shows in the impressively high graduation rates across the city’s high schools. According to niche.com, Northwood, University, Irvine and Woodbridge high schools all have graduation rates at 96% and above.

Another important statistic to watch is the AP enrollment rate. University High School has the highest AP enrollment rate at 37%, followed by Woodbridge with 35%, Northwood with 30%, and Irvine High School with 28%.

Best Irvine High School for the Arts


All Irivne high schools offer arts classes in addition to a full curriculum of classes. Courses offered include: crafts, graphics, intro to graphics design and production, screen printing, photography, drawing, portfolio preparation, studio art, ceramics, and sculpture.

In all of our Orange County, OCSHA (Orange County School of the Arts) is the best high school for the arts. Broken up into five different schools for the arts, music, theater, fine and media arts, and applied arts, this charter school has evolved from an after-school program into one of the leading arts high schools in the country.

Irvine High School could be the top school within the city for the arts because of their involvement in the Cappies. The Cappies is a writing and award program training high school arts students to become writers, thought leaders, and creators. Irvine High School’s last performance for the Cappies was their production of Bring It On in February of 2019.

Best Irvine High School for Sports


The top high schools for sports in Orange County include private schools Mater Dei, JSerra Catholic, and Santa Margarita, as well as public schools Corona Del Mar and Mission Viejo High Schools. While Irvine high schools are most notably known for great academics, the district still provides a robust athletics department. Of note are the local sports clubs within Irvine as well, for example the Woodbridge Tennis Club.
