East San Diego, California was originally an independent city, though it was short-lived. East San Diego existed from 1912 to 1923 in what is now the City Heights neighborhood in San Diego. It’s easily confused with East County, San Diego, which includes the four cities directly East of San Diego — El Cajon, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, and Santee, in addition to several communities such as Lakeside, Spring Valley, Jamul, and Alpine.
City Heights, San Diego is a diverse, urban neighborhood in San Diego known for its colorful murals, delicious and varied restaurants, and commercial activity, especially along University Avenue, Fairmount Avenue, and El Cajon Boulevard. Many consider City Heights one of the best neighborhoods in San Diego. It’s close to everything the city offers, and features green spaces like the Colina del Sol park and the Azalea Park Canyon trail even though it’s densely populated.
