Why Kids Love Tustin: Parks, Recreation And More

Tustin, CA is a great centrally-located family-friendly suburb of Orange County with a wide variety of parks and recreation nearby as well as community events to enjoy. Tustin parks and recreation offers 13 different parks and facilities to residents plus several other California parks just down the street. Two of the most exciting and popular parks in Orange County are Irvine Regional Park & Irvine Great Park, both just outside of Tustin. Check out these parks and the great events coming up this fall like the Irvine Regional Park Pumpkin Patch and the Great Park Pumpkin Harvest.

A great place in town to go for some outdoor fun is the Tustin Sports Park, the largest park in the city covering 20 acres of land. And don’t worry, not only does the sports park accommodate all the young athletes, it also includes onsite parking for over 200 cars. The Tustin Sports Park also includes 6 tennis courts, 2 basketball courts and 3 ball diamonds all of which are lighted so you can help your kids practice after dinner or even play a couple games of pick-up with your friends after work. Don’t have a group of friends for pick-up? No worries, you can join an adult softball league or the Tustin Tennis Club.

There are several different adult softball leagues for men, women and also co-ed which meet Monday – Friday for four seasons. The winter season will start January so start limbering up and practicing if you’re thinking of joining. The Tennis Club plays all year long and is also a non-profit organization. This co-ed club has tournaments and annual events like a Getaway weekend every August and Holiday dinner each winter. These adult sports are a great way to make friends in the community and best of all, keep you healthy and fit!

A great upcoming community event to check out is the 6th Annual Tustin Old Town Art Walk. The event will include beer and wine tastings, live music, bus tours, kid’s art at the city library, a photo contest and more. If you’re an artist you can grab a spot to showcase your work or sign up for the Plein Air contest where you can create a masterpiece on the spot inspired by historic downtown Tustin. Artist or not, you’re sure to have a fun filled weekend at the Tustin Old Town Art Walk. Check out the website for a list of bands playing though out the weekend and full contest rules.
