The City of Hemet, located in Riverside County, is home to an estimated 66,455 residents. Large-scale residential development began in the 1960s, mostly in the form of mobile home parks and retirement communities, which gave Hemet a reputation as a working-class retirement area. And while Hemet today retains much of its retirement orientation, it is also increasingly becoming the home of a significant number of younger families. The area’s affordability, proximity to employment centers such as Corona, Riverside and San Bernardino, and its relatively rural character, including the majestic Diamond Valley Reservoir, have made it an attractive destination for working-class families priced out of other areas of Southern California.
